Orphan Blocks

There's little to show for this week but the machine has been humming. First I found this precious angel block of shadow applique. All it needed was a border. Shadow applique is fusing and hand stitching on three layers of fabric: organza on top of cotton with the fusible design and flannel underneath. I like the look and the fun of stitching around the applique, but maybe I just got tired of it after doing a larger quilt of spring blocks.

Mixed in with the angel were a bunch of orphan blocks. They made me feel bad that they were stuck in the black hole. These are from a guild BOM where you made one to keep and one for the drawing of all blocks submitted.  There are still a few more I'll have to find options for. They are all paper pieced.

A few weeks back I found a fun flamingo tray at a resale shop that says summer. So I thought this block would make up to be a great trivet. I'm wanting to make some flamingo tea towels too. Perhaps some coasters as well. My daughter likes to use these as trivets on her counter. She's not getting this one.

For this block, the BOM leader gave us the pattern and asked us to make it look like yourself. There's a small quilt in one hand. You can see the dark gray hair but can you see any wrinkles?

Finally I was able to get to Harbor Freight for a free tape measure and finish off a few more click-it bags. For the larger red/blue bags the blue check is vinyl fabric. They go so fast in multiples that I'm thinking Christmas gifts.

Even though there isn't much to show, five Project Linus quilts were quilted and I am quilting a UFO.
