From Under My Bed: Chapter 2

This is a Moda BOM offered at the local quilt shop. Several of us jumped in with the teaser first pattern. My plan was to finish it and redo my bedroom to match it. Well, once I had all the blocks completed it was just too busy. There's not a spot to rest your eyes. I quit before adding the border, stipple quilted it and just display it now and then.

Each block was a delight to work on; some applique with primitive stitching but mostly piecing.

This was the first block and a real teaser. Do I or don't I? Look at that sweet basket with three sweeter flowers. Check out the bows on the side and then tell me you'd say no.

Tulips. Nice setting for them using these strong colors.

This was a bit tricky at first. For the green blocks, a strip of red flannel was pieced down the center before the blocks were cut. This allowed the edges to be raw and free to fray. And again the red flannel on the basket handle. I used some old, old buttons on this block and throughout the quilt. I still have a bag of buttons I intended to used once it was quilted.

How about these teeny tiny yo yos for the basket handle and also the base. 

Another unusual basket is this narrow one with a single larger flower.

And another of my favorite blocks from this quilt. It gives off a cooler color and makes me think more about our fall weather. As you can see, I finished with scrappy binding. Yes, I do believe I would have said yes again. It was the process and the appeal.

From Under My Bed, Chapter 1

Our house is in need of some care. I wanted to replace our bedroom carpeting with carpeting. The hubby wanted the ceramic tile that looks like wood. It's easier to give in; he's my resident decorator. Everything had to come out of the bedroom--everything. That included my hidden quilts, UFOs and other goodies that have been forgotten about. I'll try to show you my quilts as I find wherever they landed in the disorganized taking-out-and-putting-back that occurred here this week.

This tabletopper was pieced and hand quilted about 15 years ago. The project leader for our guild told me I needed to practice more on my hand quilting before stitching on the raffle quilt. She was right and I knew it. The four center blocks are from a panel and two look like embroidery work.

My grandmother gave me this treasure of hers about 50+ years ago. I've never had it out on display but now thought it really needs to be seen. Cutest teapot ever with accompanying cream and sugar bowl. Now it'll be in my kitchen with my other red/black and white decorations.

This tabletopper was made about the same time. Early quilting nicely tucked away and forgotten about.

Oh, by the way, here's a shot of the tile. Won't dent or scratch. Should be low maintenance and an inch more space under the bed. :)
