Funky Fridge Fun

Have I been away?  No.  It's been one thing or another.  Besides working on my projects for the Ho Ho Ho blog hop to start the end of July, I've also been playing nurse.  Last week there was lots of hammering around here--enough to cut the creative juices.  And we are fortunate to bird sit our friends' parrot for a month.  Lolita is such a kick and prefers people food.  You should see her chomp on pizza.

There's been little time to decorate for summer but with just a bit of effort I got my fridge art replaced.  It has summer written all over it.

 

It was a fun project and I like playing with dimension and wish there was more.  What do you think about the disproportion?  I call it funky.

Do as I Say, Not as I Do

I was just over at Carol’s blog, Just Let Me Quilt, and she was showing off some fancy smancy labels she got for her many creatively crafted projects.   We should all take the time to label our hand crafted items and document our quilts.   It’s almost like a birth certificate giving life to something we invested not only time and talent but also love.

That being said….  Being perfect doesn’t apply to me. 

This small quilt was made about ten years ago.  Yes, about ten years ago. The backing is the same toile print as the front.  However, in two opposite corners on the back handwritten dates appear:  2004 in one corner and 2005 in the other.  Generally I label by hand sewing or fusing a label.  The duplication possibly appeared during preparation for a quilt show.  You know the date blended in with the fabric and was not seen.  When that happens, just grab a marker and guess.  Don't do as I do.

June is Cherries Month

June is typically the first sighting of cherries.  Therefore, it is time to change from strawberries to cherries in my kitchen.

I can't remember if I posted this picture with the cupcakes.  It's called a "stay put" towel and rightly so.

I've made a few more to get me through the summer including a cherry version.

It is finally my lucky day!  What a beautiful hop this has been.  Thanks to all the participants for sharing their creativity.  Imagine, such inspiration with just a click.  Thanks also to our humble leader Madame Samm at Sew We Quilt and Carol at Just Let Me Quilt or her topnotch cheering.

This tea cozy pattern was in a magazine last fall done up in a cute Christmas fabric.  It's not just a cozy but an organizer as well.  One pocket is a bit bigger than the other but sized right to hold the two mug rugs.  These flowers aren't traditional but they do add the pizzazz needed on my counter.

The tea cozy went so fast leaving plenty of time to play before the post date.  This little coin purse (pattern here) stitched together lickety split and only takes scraps.

Continued digging in my small scraps turned up enough to make a needle case.  Just another quick project. Ok, ok.  I'll give the needle case to one of you.  If you are not a follower, become one.  Then leave me a comment with the name of your favorite flower.  Drawing will be made  June 9th.

The last project is a "touch up."  I made the headband a few months back and retrieved some of those scraps to add the flower and old button.  Now I'm styling.
