Your Garden Must Be Beautiful

 

 

I first saw this pattern on Pam Kitty Morning's blog last November, my sewing fingers said "GO" and did. There's a drawer full of PKM fabric in my sewing room, and of course I had the black with flowers. The saying embroidered on the sides made me smile and sigh pleasantly. Everyone has a friend who fits this saying and we are so fortunate they have crossed our life path. My next one will be for a friend who has a beautiful garden and a beautiful heart.



I bet you are wanting to know where to get this pattern. It will be available in about three weeks or so along with other patterns. Please keep in mind, the pattern is copyrighted by Sisters' Quilting Trunk where you'll find an amazing selection sewing and quilting patterns. They are four sisters (Mary Andra, Cheryl, Candee and Andee) each with a distinct specialty creating patterns for quilters and stitchers. There is also a blog at Mary Andra, a Sister from Sisters' Quilting Trunk. I had a lovely email from Mary Andra when I sent her a picture of my little quilt and she said the patterns are now in the process and will be out soon.

When it was ready to quilt, it had to rest while setting the plan in motion. You see, I don't like too much quilting on an embroidered piece. It attempts to steal the show. Mine has simple diagonal lines of machine quilting. Next time I'll hand quilt the lines, since I think the pattern deserves just a bit more giving.

Kids Quilts

I turned in five quilts philanthropy quilts the other day but only got pictures of three of them. These I pieced as well as the straight line quilting. It only takes about 20 minutes to quilt--the rest takes a bit longer. We started pillowcasing them rather than binding. It's just quicker. The leader has given me fabric and sometimes I dig in my stash for matching pieces.

Yes, that yellow is that bright. It might even keep a kid up at night. I have method of piecing these blocks that speeds up the process.

When there were only eight bear center blocks, I had to come up with a center for the quilt. How about a pinwheel? It works and adds to the circus.

This next picture is bad, but the pattern worked well. Just 9--patch blocks and squares. It's flannel and snuggly. Sometimes patterns using boy fabric should be simple.

It's fun working with someone else's fabric. It's like you went shopping and didn't have to pay.

Quilt Doodles BOM 2015

Raw edge applique--fusible applique--or whatever you call it, is my favorite method. Such instant gratification. My sewing machine does a nice job on buttonhole stitch. Quilt Doodles Designs is doing another BOM and I was hooked. Her designs have such whimsy and cuteness, plus she has a great eye for color. A few years ago I swore I'd never get involved in another BOM. Right!

In January there were two Christmas blocks. I used insulbrite for the garland and machine stitched using metallic thread. The lines near the star are embroidered with gold metallic embroidery thread. Just a backstitch for the ribbons on the packages. The picture really doesn't show how neat it looks. I prefer doing the buttonhole stitch in the same color as the fabric--other than when it is white.



For Mr. Snowman I thought a texture might be good since the background is white. How about flannel? It worked. A few French knots and some metallic silver embroidery thread for the snow. I might have to add something there to make it stand out more.

For February there is only one block and it's a teapot. Digging in my stash I found this Mary Engelbreit fabric and decided against the colors the designer used. I'm still working on it and will take a better picture when done.



I'm hoping to stay with red in each block and am now anxious for March.

We Support You

Welcome to my day at the We Support You blog hop.

My granddaughter received her MFA this spring from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She's a writer and has taken a position with World Book. We all grew up using World Book, however this is the internet version. Gee, I wonder if they still print the encyclopedias that were sold door-to-door more than a half century ago?

What young person doesn't need "support" when they are heading out into the "real world." I thought she might like a small folder that could hold paper and writing utensils. She has been inundated with quilts from me and this might be practical as well as a statement.

There was no need to shrink the pattern to fit, and it was embroidered with perle cotton in that nice royal blue.

How about that WE SUPPORT YOU blasted across the top. Straight line quilting on the folder didn't take away from the pretty fabric found in my stash.

I'll slip some pencils in before I send it and also this little sweetie I made to hold the pencil sharpener.

It 'll keep her writing with the sharpest tool ever.
