Chicken Picnic Table Cover

Since we've had a break in the humidity, the outdoors has become more comfortable.  Maybe we could have dinner on the patio tonight.  Perhaps he might even grill some bratwurst and home fries cooked on the grill in foil.  Sounds good to me.  Actually it's more like a day off from cooking.

Watermelon Tea Cozy and Table Topper

Here's more of the watermelon pieces sitting on my counter.  The tea cozy was made long before I learned it was necessary to quilt when there's batting involved.  Maybe some quick hand quilting will hold it together.  It surely doesn't need much.  Maybe some stitching around the watermelon slices.  This fabric says everything about summer and so does the lining.

This short table runner (table topper) fits well on the table as well as a counter corner and there are many watermelon colored items for the center.

 The melon slices are paper pieced and tiny black beads used as seeds.

The last watermelon goodie to share is used more for decoration than purpose.  It is stuffed with those plastic craft beads rather than fabric stuffing and those crazy beads are still turning up here and there.  The beads give it enough weight to be a doorstop.  :)

More Watermelons

This is my favorite and maybe because it looks refreshing. It's a great combo--table topper and placemats all in one.   There are some raw but pinked edges and the seeds are fused with machine blanket stitch. 

Watermelon and Summer

Today Michael's was on the list for some embroidery thread and looky what I found. This really neat watermelon bowl. What a find--like I need another bowl. Then I skipped the other errands, went home and dig out some watermelon stuff.

First I found this table runner made last year but not used since we were gone most of watermelon season.  It was a magazine pattern tweaked a bit.  On the kitchen table I really don't like a long runner.

But here's the funny part. After I made it using stash fabric, another one turned up that was made even the year before that with the very same fabric. It was easy and fun but really not my style--it's that orange peel or whatever it is called. Perhaps it can find a useful home with one of the kids. Can you see it's not me. Yes, it has red and black but that's it.

Speaking of red and black, my favorite colors.... My husband bought me a new car a few weeks ago and I did not realize until I pulled out of the garage this morning why he picked it.  Red and black with the white cabinets--perfect.  Mine is the red one.

Fruit Ladies Bag

Summer has come wham bam!  We've had hotter than normal weather so perhaps we  will have a long hot summer.  My stash has several pieces of different fruit ladies fabric left over from other projects.  So here's my summer bag.  The button on the turn-down flap was in my button collection.  It seems to match perfectly.  I know, I know.  It's not red.
