Happy Independence Day

We are approaching another great American holiday. Time to show off one of my holiday quilts. This is a kit from Connecting Threads that I purchased about two or three years ago. You know how that goes. I finally got the kit out and put it together. You can see it was any easy pattern with fusible lettering. Cutting took the longest but it is done. So here it is and I'll use it for every 4th of July.

 

 

And here's a cute one I bought all finished just because it is so cute.

Quilt Doodles Pup & a Strip Quilt

Here's my Quilt Doodles June BOM and he's my favorite pup. No picking up after this guy--if you know what I mean. The most fun is digging into the buckets of stash to find the perfect color.

A lady was cleaning out her sewing room and our group benefitted from it. This is the first one I completed. She had the top all done and it was sandwiched and ready for quilting. Don't you remember when those where the most popular colors? Are we talking 20 or 30 years ago? It all goes together so well. Instead of traditional binding, I brought the back to the front and stitched it down. This is one very heavy quilt with all of it's layers. The foundation is muslin.

Believe it or not, there are three Christmas quilts to be done as well. All have batting and backing. I'll probably not be in the mood to do winter quilts now that it is hot out. But, then, it may give off a bit of a chill. I can hope can't I?

Spool Fabric Pouch

My New Spool Pouch

I was on a mission and then I fell in love. In love with this cute-as-can-be fabric! There was a sample pouch using this fabric at the quilt shop but using a different pattern. The top was arched and I didn't want to try an arch with a zipper. So I stuck with my standby pattern.

I had gone to the quilt shop for some fabric. Last week I received a pattern I won from Joan at Moosestash Quilting. This is such a neat pattern with with northwoods type of plaids, pine trees and, of course, more than one moose. What's the plural off moose anyway? They are so whimsical and this will be perfect for my Michigan sister-in-law. She'll love it just as pictured.

But for me, I will dress them up a bit. As long as they are having fun on that table topper, I'll add some red. Maybe the background will be in neon colors. Won't that be fun.

Back to the pouch. It went together well and then I had to choose buttons. Time sort off slips when you dig through you buttons. Decisions, decisions.

A black fabric from my stash worked well for the lining. It has small dots of all the colors. I just finished hand sewing the opening left for turning and decided black is not my favorite for handsewing.

I found this spool for the zipper end. Not sure if it'll last--chincy looking and the color isn't right.

Also, I took pictures of some of our hybrid hollyhocks. The first one I use as my screen saver and it about blinds me. We never know what the seeds will produce. We save seeds from each plant and mark the color. That's not always what blooms though.

Summer is here--it was 102 degrees today. Where's June gloom?

Small Squares Tea Cozy

How could I not resist. It was in a magazine (can't remember which) and the pattern pushed me into the sewing room to scurry through the 1930's scraps to find the perfect pieces. I was hesitant using black with the soft colors, but somehow it worked and I'm happy the way it turned out. It sits on a folded table runner near my embroidered Your Garden Must Be Beautiful poem with the same black fabric from Pamkittymorning.

In hindsight, I wish it was a bit wider to show off the teapot a bit more. Those tiny blocks are 3/4" finished.

 



The table runner was from another magazine years ago. Around here, magazines are not in the save pile.



Notice the back has two pockets and with two coasters from the tutorial HERE. Perhaps a few tea bags or the tea bag squeezer for the other pocket.
