Cute Pouch and Flange Binding

A friend had hip surgery last week and I needed a fun and quick gift. She's a quilter so I know she'll get a kick out of it. I'll try to find some fall goodies to put in it. Perhaps a fall candle and lotion.

This is a kit from Connecting Threads--pattern included. There's enough fabric for at least four pouches. I like that they are lined. I should have shown you the orange fabric inside.

 The little ladies each have names: Faith, Hope and Charity.

They also have these matching zipper tab (extra charge but cheap).

Then I finished up a project that's been left hanging in the closet. The top was finished about two years ago, but I never got around to quilting it. This was a experiment. I pressed all the seams open to see how flat it would lay. Believe me it does. I should have picked a project with bigger blocks to practice this technique. The squares are 1 inch.

To add to my testing experience I decided to add the flanged binding. It's wonderful using the machine to do all the work on the binding. This was a great time to put those red clips to good use. It just buzzed along.

Coffee Small Quilt and Quilt Doodles Blocks

During my early years of quilting, I found applique work--either fusible or needle turn--most relaxing. It was fun to make small quilts and especially quilts for bare kitchen walls. Well, I dug this one out to hang and now realize it needs more quilting. I know you aren't supposed to mess with quilts once they are completed, but this one will not go by the rules.

My husband is the artist of the family. He found this pretty piece to attach the quilt to making for a nicer statement when hung. It fits perfectly.

 

Do you find yourself getting more sewing done with the air conditioning running? I'm originally from IL now residing in CA and remember the days we were snowed in during the winter. Great stitching time. Heck, now we are bound to  our house with the air conditioning running and it's easily compared to snow days without shoveling.

 

I got two of the Quilt Doodles BOM 2016 blocks completed and will be digging in my stash for more fabric this afternoon. The weather man says warm again. This tiny squares are fun to work with and present a fun challenge.

I'm hoping after a good pressing they won't look so wonky.

My friend assembled this quilt for Quilts of Valor. The group made the blocks and it was a matter of getting them together. The fabrics have a nice mix.

Happy Indepence Day

Cute small quilt free pattern I got from Cherry Blossom Quilting last year. It's still free and you can make one up this afternoon or at least get a good start on next year. She's got lots of quilt patterns as well as applique designs.

Ha ha. Do you see the problem here? This is from The Splendid Sampler. Don't you just love it when you get in a hurry to make a block  but don't read all the directions. Those are probably all I had in scraps of those colors. Guess I'll have to change my plan. This one will become a mug rug and I'll see if any of my quilting buddies can see the error.  (Oh, the pin cushion is my favorite. I use it as a weight on my sewing table when I am quilting to cut the "drag".)

A friend gave me these scraps from a quilt she made. There was just enough--I mean just enough to make this baby quilt. It'll go to the naval hospital. This is mighty nice fabric and the colors are unique.
