Back in October I won two packs of these teeny tiny mini charm squares from How Art You? blog. My idea was to experiment with pressing seams open. Bad idea with small squares. It was a trick. Usually we press to the side, but I was going for a nice flat look. I got it alright.
Quilting purists would turn their back on open pressed seams stating it would be a weak seam. Hmmm. How come my pants have open seams and I sit on them and they really press open. Talk about stress on a seam.
It took me forever to open and press and get them flat. Since I had made this pattern before, I was looking to improve what I had. So now it is on to the quilting and binding.
Here it is, the last rose of summer. Maybe I should say winter. It's time to trim the roses back but had to let this last bud bloom.

Wishing everyone lots of finishes in the new year.

This is beautiful! I love those mini charms and have several waiting for me to use them. When I started making quilts I had a really hard time not wanting to press the seams open since that's what I'd always done when sewing clothes. Lots of pros and cons on how to iron them on a quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute, I love miniature stuff to look at, just not make it, LOL
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, I didn't know that there was a rule about open seams, interesting.
ReplyDeleteReally pretty! How big is it? I have a couple of charm packs and wonder how big my quilt will be cause I avoid math at all costs lol.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! So, do you think you will press open again?
