Quilt Display Idea

Most of my quilts are wall-sized quilts and I have run out of walls. Rather than have my quilts folded up, seeing them makes me enjoy them more. Lately I've been laying smaller quilts on my bed kind of like a bed runner. Sometimes the are open full and some folded in half.

Here's the one I got out for this hot summer. It's from Eleanor Burns Victory Quilts book. She was performing at a small antique building in her second home city of Julian California. This was the second year I had gone for this  show. What's great is the drive to Julian--about an hour--and the atmosphere in this old building and the city. There were maybe just less than 50 people bunched together to watch.

The block patterns are from the 1940s. She had the blocks in two different sizes and mine is the smaller size. Smaller blocks look more quaint and I didn't need another large quilt.

Of course, the swag around the quilt really gives it flavor. The quilting is SID around the blocks but a bit of FM in stars around the swag. I didn't over-quilt especially over the blocks. A bit of hand quilting around FDR's dog Fala.

Eleanor's  books are delightful reading too. She always adds a bit of history and some personal stories. I made this quilt over ten years ago when I didn't know about the quilt police. You can probably see in the pictures the fold lines from being put away too long. I usually refold quilts several times during the year so the folds are minimalized. Lately I've been rolling several together.

It's not like me to go so long without a blog post. We traveled east to visit family and my granddaughter's wedding shower. A side trip to visit with my SIL and her family. Just as another idea.... My niece has an antique bakers rack where she stores quilts. She's not a quilter but she knew how to care for them.

Stay cool!

My camera skills are getting worse, sorry.
